well the latest course by Sensei Sakagami was well attended i thought ...20 or so which is fairly good really . It was good to see a few new faces as well as the usual regulars ...the price was very reasonable too , £15.00 for adults £8.00 for children . The course went fairly quickly despite being 4 hrs long ...!!!! Sakagami has a great way of teaching and he always takes time to look around at everyone and offer advice and help out if things are a little tricky for you to understand . I thoroughly enjoyed the course and look forward to the next one ...and also once again thank Sensei Sakagami for taking the time to come and visit us and teach us different things which we would never otherwise have learnt
Anyone else have any comments about the course and what they enjoyed or anything that could have been added to it . .
Hi Guys
Yes I agree it was a very good course, what I like (as John knows) are the take downs, he may ask you to perform the same basic attack but will always show so many variations on take downs & finishes. The first time I trained with Sensei Sakagami I thought I would really like to attend more of his seminars - which I have done & still continue to enjoy ( as most of us do).
He has a unique teaching style, I just really enjoy his teaching, I had the same feeling when I first trained with Marc Walder (Brazillian Jiu Jitsui ) in around 2000, & straight after the lesson I said to my son Paul that I would like to train with that guy again he really is good - & we did for a number of years actually - when he opened up a club nearby. On a similar note though i have attended some seminars where I couldn't believe the stuff I was hearing & the lack of control on the Uke (training partner) & silly 'death kill' type of moves. Another I like is Iain Abernethy, I think he holds a really good seminar, packed with knowledge, ideas, a bit of History & a good workout of course.
Royce Gracie is another, I first trained with a handfull of students with John Mc Kinnon (Paul & I used to train with John in Combat /kickboxing Ju jitsu) Marc Walder & Royce in 2000 - after that we trained with Royce a number of times (through Marc) & he really is very good, you definately wouldn't mess with Royce (UFC fame) HA! HA!
While I am at it me & Paul also trained in wrestling /grappling with Alex Livingstone ( from Bob Breens Academy) for around 18 months he too is very good - all these guys have great experience & teaching ways you just have to experience.
Going back to Sakagami Sensei, in Portugal last summer after 6 days of training, we were all in the bar before heading home & I looked towards the balcony & sensei was going through Pinan Nidan with Baptiste's son, both shooting past the doors - just an amazing man really!
As John mentioned we paired up together (which I enjoyed) but I do have two lots of two bruises around the Kidney areas ? I wonder where they came from???
Difficult to say Ken (whistles innocently), but you did pair up a bit with Sakagami Sensei, perhaps he hit you harder than you thought!A shame that Portugal is off this year, I was looking forward to that. I think Eric was going to try to convince him to run a summer camp in Walthamstow lol, probably not worth holding your breath on that one.
Yes I was looking forward to that, but sensei said Portugal is on next year!
As for Sensei's bruises they won't come out for a few weeks yet - no they seem to be just about your fist width mmmmm!
